**Gion Matsuri festival** During traditional festivals, the Deity is taken from its usual shrine to a special place and then brought back when the festival is over. The grand parade, called the Procession, happens on July 17th and 24th and goes through the streets of Kyoto. It is the most exciting part of the Gion Matsuri festival.
