The Otaru Canal Lantern Festival is an event that celebrates the history of Otaru, a town once known as the "heart of Hokkaido," where food and goods collected from all over Hokkaido were loaded onto Kitamae ships and delivered to all parts of the country, resulting in the city's prosperity. In this event, everyone's dreams are placed on lanterns and floated down the Otaru Canal.
Please write your wishes, favorite words or illustrations on the handmade lanterns and let the light of the lanterns illuminate the beautiful night of Otaru.
This year, the event will be held in conjunction with the North Canal Night Market Yummy Market. Enjoy the fantastic illumination of the Otaru Canal, delicious gourmet food, and the market all at the same time. (A free drink of your choice is included.)
