    • 活動内容 This park was established on the former site of the Ministry of Agriculture’s silk examination area, and the old gate and management office made out of brick still remain here as they were in those times. This large park also serves as common space for a neighboring elementary school and has been designated as an evacuation site in the event of a disaster, having a storage of supplies for various disaster protection. Inside the park is spacious, with a large sycamore tree in the center as the “gathering place”, a grassy knoll and a pond “relaxation space”, and others. For these reasons the park is usually bustling with activity of people enjoying the scenery, families spending time together, and so on.

    • 活動内容 Otaguro Park is a Japanese-style garden with a central pond that is located on the grounds of the former residence of music critic Moto Otaguro. In autumn there is a fall foliage illumination, and the beautiful scenery radiates throughout the park. The fall colors reflect magically on the surface of the pond, making this garden-park a deep attraction for shutterbugs.

    • 活動内容 Za Koenji Theater was designed by architect Toyo Ito and opened in May of 2009. The theater has a profound outward appearance and an interior with a great sense of space, made very bright by the light dotting the inside from its scattered circular windows. There are 3 separate halls each with their own unique characteristics as well as a café where you can freely enjoy a variety of picture books. All of these factors make Za Koenji Theater a well known facility to many people inside and outside of the region.

    • 活動内容 For approximately 1.6 kilometers from the Omekaido Road intersection in front of Suginami City Hall to the Waseda-Dori Road intersection, Japanese zelkova trees line both sides of Nakasugi-Dori Road. These trees are said to be of the largest scale in Tokyo, providing shade in summer under the lush green leaves that change to a pleasant yellow in the fall; the trees have become a symbol of Asagaya.

    • 活動内容 Usually every year in the end of August the “Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori” Festival is held, but this year it had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The station master of Koenji Station proposed to the “Association for Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori Promotion” that “Even in this situation perhaps there is something we can do to communicate the spirit, enthusiasm and liveliness of Awa-Odori.” The result was the decision to display past posters over the years for the event on the station premises and surrounding grounds. The posters include about 20 displays with some going back as far as 40 years. Let the spirit of the traditional festival invigorate you when you pass through Koenji Station.

      On display until August 31st.

    • 活動内容 Yosano Park is located where the famous Japanese poets, Hiroshi Yosano and his wife Akiko, lived their final years. As the site of their former residence, a gatepost was built at the entrance so you could feel as though paying them a visit. The park has many monuments engraved with their waka poems. You can also admire the many seasonal flowers they loved such as azaleas and camellia, which Akiko often wrote about in her poems.

You can also find monuments of poets and figures related to Suginami, and the “Souvenir d’Anne Frank” roses add color to the scenery.
