- The fusuma calligraphy you can also see was created by calligrapher Kohei Okamoto, who is also a Kukai scholar. On the 36 sliding doors that separate the five rooms, the Heart Sutra, a Buddhist text, is written in a font called Hihakutai, which is said to have been brought back from the Tang Dynasty by Kukai. Rain, mountains, dragons, etc. are expressed through the flowing lines of letters, making this work both calligraphy and beautiful, like a painting.
