偕樂園與金澤的兼六園、岡山的後樂園並列為日本三大名園。它由水戶藩第九代藩主德川齊昭於1842年建造，因其希望將這裡打造成一個供民眾共享樂趣的場所，故而得名偕樂園。 寬敞的園內種植了約100個品種、3000棵梅樹。每年2月中旬至3月下旬舉辦的梅花節，讓遊客在梅花盛開的季節盡情享受園內美景。梅花季結束後，園內將盛開櫻花、杜鵑花，9月則將迎來胡枝子。好文亭是位於偕樂園內的一座兩層或三層的木結構建築，據說是由水戶藩第九代藩主德川齊昭親自設計的。值得注意的是，齊昭邀請文人、藩臣和其領地內的人們來欣賞詩歌和茶道。
