An older brother coming from the interior design industry and a younger brother experienced in the café world teamed up to form “Wood Good Brothers”, a café-restaurant selling furniture in Ogikubo. Their full lunch menu with 7 main dishes to choose from is very popular. There are also many options for their cake set and drinks which you can enjoy choosing from. The popular lasagna lunch features a pleasant tomato sourness that matches perfectly with the meat sauce, which further matches a thick cream sauce. The large salad on the side is also a welcome feature.
Any of the furniture inside that has a price tag is also available for purchase. You could also ask for advice about interior coordination or furniture care. Wood Good Brothers is a stylish and comfortable space where you can come to imagine your dream room, or relax on a sofa while enjoying conversation and delicious food.

With its special selection of miscellaneous lovely import goods and foodstuffs, you might call “Poppe” in Ogikubo a mini-department store. The staff including the manager are all mothers raising children. The product lineup at the store is perhaps then as one would expect, mostly featuring cute and functional goods from a working mother’s perspective. From toys that are safe for infants to games that adults can also enjoy, there are is a full assortment of products for all ages, and many would also make perfect gifts!
According to the manager, “We choose our products based on those that could bring joy to mothers and children. Since all of our female staff are mothers, it’s also easy to ask us for advice.” So on a busy day when you just need a breather, feel free to stop in and choose a gift for that special someone.

Do you know about the popular gelato shop on Asagaya’s north side, “Gelateria Sincerita”? Recently we had the opportunity to discuss what makes Sincerita’s gelato so popular with the owner, Mr. Yousuke Nakai, who opened the shop in 2010 while also working as an interior designer:
*Specialties and Characteristics about the Gelato Production and Ingredients
Our fruit is acquired fresh and direct from farmers as much as possible. Because the fruit is chosen depending on what is in its best season, it is a good chance for you to experience the seasonal flavors of Japan. We make sure none of the fruit is wasted (sometimes even using the peel, etc.), adding to the characteristic taste of our gelato. We also put a lot of effort into creating the right balance between sweet and sour, and our method for extracting the sweet aroma.
For the sweetness of the gelato, we used refined Japanese sugar and honey. This is a gentle sweetness that doesn’t remain after eating; it’s not overpowering and also allows you to properly taste the ingredients.
*Where the Interior Design Career Comes Into Play
A shop’s service and atmosphere greatly affect the taste of the product. If you make something that tastes great that is not all there is to it; I think making the atmosphere is related to making the taste, so I believe my past experience serves an important purpose at Sincerita.
Whether it’s making gelato or interior design, both jobs have a lot in common in terms of flow and creativity in making something, and I feel perhaps I could say it is almost as if I am actually doing the same thing.
*Message to Customers
Especially in Tokyo there may not be many gelaterias, but I think a gelateria is a great place to freely stop by at and take a break. Our product has a lot of variation from seasonal fruit and dairy to sometimes even alcohol and nut ingredients as well, so whenever you stop by you can look forward to trying new flavors. We look forward to your visit.

Pucna Hicona is a steak restaurant in Asagaya opened in November 2019, as a result of the closing of Steak Chaya Shitamachikko in Nakano. Shitamachikko’s regular customers were at a loss without their beloved steak restaurant, so as a response the restaurant relocated to Asagaya and reopened as Pucna Hicona. The owner Fukuoka-san had lived a long time in Asagaya, and here he wanted introduce the true delicacies of Wagyu and Kobe Beef, and took over the beef curing practice from Shitamachikko. Popular dishes include “Saijokyu Wagyu Steak” (150g; 6,300 yen + tax), the highest grade of Japanese beef cured in a unique method; and “Saijokyu Wagyu Hamburg” which uses the same beef. Since there is a limit to the amount of cured beef available, making a reservation is recommended. If you want to enjoy the umami that can only be found in Japanese wagyu beef, please give Pucna Hicona a try.

“Rakugo” is a Japanese traditional performance art, and along with various styles of traditional comedy and storytelling, sometimes with musical accompaniment, and other performances such as paper silhouette cutting and juggling, these many forms of traditional performance can be seen at many unique venues in Koenji during the Engei Festival. These venues include public bathhouses, izakaya, theaters, and many more. This year has the record highest number of locations at 62, and over 150 performers.
Even if you cannot understand Japanese, there are performances you can enjoy, such as the “kamikiri” paper silhouette cutting and others. Enya is a multinational European cuisine restaurant that opened in May of 2018. The interior space is however more of a “Brooklyn style” with its brick and concrete walls. Since it is quite spacious, it feels comfortable to have conversation here, and is thus popular among couples in their 30’s – 50’s and groups of women for “girls’ nights out” and so on. The recommended menu here includes the “charcuterie assortment” (1,800 yen), “soft shell shrimp hodgepodge” (1,580 yen), “BBQ sauce pork ragoût” (1,480 yen), “Normandy style mussels steamed with wine” (1,200 yen), and more. They also provide not only wine but also Japanese "sake" in a relaxing space. Additionally, the store manager speaks English, so you can ask him general things about Japan if he is available. If you are looking for delectable cuisine in a place where you can also enjoy the atmosphere and conversation, you are always welcome at Enya in Nishi-Ogikubo.
