The reason Miyazaki's films can create such an alien but at one familiar atmosphere is because he draws from the deep Shinto folk heritage of Japan, that even many locals have forgotten about.
Whether you're curious about Shinto meditation, magical practices, or just cultural meaning, I offer a tour that goes far deeper than looking at the historic superficialities of Meiji Jingu. We will take a deeper look at Shinto and learn why it is closer to magic than religion. In the end, there will even be a chance for the curious to try out some of the ancient magical techniques.
The walk follows the path through Meiji Jingu from the torii gate to the shrine. Along the way, I’ll show you how to interact with objects and the space itself, because Meiji Jingu is not a simple park, it is a forgotten magical instrument.
