- Kakegawa Castle is the stage where Tokugawa Ieyasu, the future shogun of the Edo Shogunate, fought a fierce six-month siege against Imagawa Ujizane, who grew up like a brother. The present Kakegawa Castle was reconstructed in April 1994 as Japan's first full-scale wooden castle keep. In rebuilding the castle tower, carefully selected Japanese timbers over 300 years old were used to faithfully restore the beauty of the past.
