- Mt. Fuji in Japan is an active volcano about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. Commonly called “Fuji-san,” it’s the country’s tallest peak, at 3,776 meters. Its iconic profile is the subject of numerous works of art, notably Edo Period prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige. Fujisan is the tallest mountain in Japan and is a sacred place to the Japanese people. It has been an object of worship since ancient times, and has had a large influence on the way that Japanese people view nature.
