The walk begins in Gion Shirakawa, a picturesque riverside area known for its willow trees, stone paths, and traditional tea houses. From there, the route leads to historic shrines and lesser-known corners, passing through calm backstreets away from the crowds. As you walk, you will see well-preserved wooden townhouses from the Edo period, offering a sense of Kyoto’s past. The tour concludes on Hanamikoji Street, the center of the geisha district. You may have the opportunity to see a geisha heading to an evening appointment while learning about their rigorous training, elegant performances, and the artistry behind their kimono and hairstyles, providing insight into Gion’s traditional culture.
