Desserts and sweets play a large role in French cuisine - the word "dessert" itself is inherently a French one. Elaborate creations that look as amazing as they taste do not only make for wonderful snapshots for your social networks but also offer a very unique and exquisite culinary experience!
Is this a Dessert or a Painting?
Janice Wong, the first spot on our list, is situated in Shinjuku's NEWoMan. The center of the café features both a kitchen and a counter with integrated seats, making for a wonderfully comfortable atmosphere. Furthermore, it is possible to directly observe how the elaborate desserts are being made by Janice Wong herself who is both a master chef and an artist. This is reflected in the amazing desserts that she creates for her guests, carefully arranged, much like a painting. Among those creations is the immensely popular Cassis Plum for 1,950 yen, made with elderflower yoghurt, rice crispies, granita, and yuzu caviar, among many other delicious ingredients. This unique combination makes for an interesting mix of textures and flavors. These little artworks come with a recommendation of Japanese sake and cocktail choices for each individual dish, paired perfectly with the flavors on the plate - spoil your taste buds with these wonderful creations and their accompanying drinks!

An Entire Course of Famous French Desserts
ESqUISSE CINq, our next recommendation, can be found in Tokyu Plaza Ginza, not far away from the famous French restaurant ESqUISSE. As the name suggests, this café is set up by this very same restaurant, offering the most popular desserts of its original menu. According to the restaurant's chef patissier Kazutomo Narita, who honed his skills in both France and Japan, the desserts are all made fresh once the order comes in. On top of that, they are all prepared with as little additives as possible.
The course is either made up of a choice assortment of three different seasonal desserts or a selection of three desserts by the guests themselves, available for 3,500 yen.

A Café Hidden in an Atmospheric Back Alley
Just one minute away from Kagurazaka Station lies the dessert specialty store Atelier Kohta, hidden away in a charming back alley. Nine counter seats can be found in the back of the café that is designed in a clean, sophisticated white, from which the preparation of the sweet creations can be observed after one's order. Chef Yoshioka trained in the renowned Meiji Memorial Hall and has won many a patisserie contest with his extraordinary skills. Artistic desserts created with seasonal ingredients can be enjoyed here for reasonable prices. The popular "Cherry and Pistachio Parfait", for example, to be savored for 1,300 yen, is a colorful dish that is made out of American cherries and three kinds of seasonal pistachio. Starting with the warm cherry puree at the bottom of the glass, this sophisticated dessert will tickle your tongue with an interesting combination of different temperatures, textures, and tastes.
