Asakusa Hanayashiki, which opened in 1853, is the oldest amusement park in Japan. One roller coaster in Hanayashiki dates back to 1953 and is the oldest extant scream machine in the country. With a large variety of attractions, such as those that even newborns can ride or spine-tingling haunted houses, this is an amusement park that you can enjoy with your kids. Put yourself in a festive mood for the ennichi, or traditional Japanese fair stalls, in the game zone. Another popular attraction is the Ninja Training Dojo, where anyone 5-years old and older can learn the requisite skills to become a ninja (reservations required). Hanayashiki even has an area on its rooftop with views of the main hall and five-storied pagoda of Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo Skytree(R) and other sights, making it a wonderful place to enjoy Asakusa sightseeing.
An amusement park that has attracted many visitors for over 80 years since opening in 1926. The merry-go-round called Carousel El Dorado is a famous symbol of the park. The carousel was made in Germany by Hugo Haase in 1907, and made its way to other European countries and the United States before landing in Toshimaen in 1971. In recognition of its high value as a cultural asset, it was registered as a Mechanical Engineering Heritage in 2010 by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. All of the sculptures on it are handcrafted wood sculptures with fine details. Other than the merry-go-round, the park offers various rides such as the big pirate ship called Flying Pirates which swings in the air, and a corkscrew roller coaster. The swimming pools and slides are also very popular in the summer.
