Description
The museum opened in July 1976. It is located on the 42nd floor of a highrise building, and visitors can enjoy views of Tokyo from its observation corridor. As the name of the museum suggests, about 230 out of the approximately 620 pieces of art on display are paintings by the Japanese artist Seiji Togo. Togo has left a major mark on the history of oil painting, and his unique portraits of women are widely popular. In addition to Togo's work, the museum permanently displays world-famous paintings such as ”Sunflowers” by Vincent van Gogh, ”L'Allée des Alyscamps, Arles” by Paul Gauguin, and ”Pommes et Serviette” by Paul Cézanne. In addition, the museum's collection includes a variety of artwork, such as paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Pablo Ruiz Picasso. In recent years, the museum has held special and themed exhibitions six times a year to introduce outstanding art by modern and contemporary artists. The museum is a five-minute walk from the JR Shinjuku Station West Exit, the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Shinjuku Station, the Nishi-Shinjuku Station, and the Tokyo Metro Oedo Line Shinjuku-Nishiguchi Station.
