Description
Located near the outer moat of the Imperial Palace, the Idemitsu Museum of Arts opened on the 9th floor of the Teigeki Building in 1966. The backbone of the collection is made up of art pieces collected over a span of seven decades by Sazo Idemitsu, founder of the petroleum company Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. Primarily composed of Japanese and Chinese works, the collection is open to the public with across five or six exhibitions every year. This carefully curated Japanese-style museum has been inviting visitors to view paintings, calligraphy and ceramics in a relaxed atmosphere since its opening. There are also oil paintings by French painter Georges Rouault and pottery pieces from excavations in Asia and the Middle East. Though it has no permanent collection, the museum has been known and loved for many years as a place to enjoy broadly-themed exhibitions planned along a set theme. A five-minute walk from the International Forum Gate at Yurakucho Station on the JR Lines or a three-minute walk from the B3 Exit of Yurakucho Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line and Hibiya Station on the Toei Mita Line will bring you to the Idemitsu Art Museum.
