[Gunma] Yokotekan: A Venerable Hotel with a Renowned Hot Spring
4.0 ( 1 reviews )
Overview
  • The Ikaho Hot Springs have a history that dates back to the year 585. Yokotekan, established in the 1710s, was originally a hatago, a type of lodging for travelers that provided them with a place to rest and meals to eat.
  • The main building, built in 1920, is a four-story building, made entirely of Japanese cypress wood. It is one of the few cypress buildings that have been preserved to date, inviting guests to enjoy the warmth of bark.
  • Guest rooms in the western unit of the main building are in a traditional Japanese style, each elegantly made with an elaborate design. Shared toilets and washrooms are located along the corridor.
  • Guest rooms in the eastern unit of the main building are Japanese-Western style refurbished in 2010. The rooms are comfortably designed using the pillars and ceilings from the original building. Each guest room has a toilet and a washroom.
  • The annex Tokiwaen was renovated in 1994, and is built with reinforcing steel. Each guest room has a toilet, a washroom, and a bath, though not hot spring.
  • Enjoy a large communal bath with the free-flowing reddish-brown “golden” water, coming directly from a hot spring.
