Koganezaki Furofushi Onsen
Description
Among the myriad secret and famous hot springs in the Tohoku region, this one provides an outstanding sense of spaciousness. Facing the western Tsugaru coast, this remote onsen accommodation is located along the JR Gono Line, a popular haunt for railway fans.
The inn consists of the main building and a new annex, both equipped with a large bath with a superb view of the Sea of Japan. This accommodation lodging famous thanks to the seaside open-air bath (Bathing time: from sunup to sundown. Day-visitor bathing: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) that is set well away from the main buildings.
The seaside open-air bath is actually set into the seashore, so you can see the horizon far away and hear the surf up close. Rich in the iron that gives this salty water its rusty hue, the source of these 52℃ hot springs is 200 m beneath the ground. The springs’ strong anti-microbial qualities, warmth and skin-enhancing character make it a favorite.
The onsen may be closed due to rough weather or high waves, so make sure to call in advance to check if it is open. You can rent or buy yukata (summer kimono), towels, soap, and shampoo, so all you need to bring is yourself!
