Sapporo / Chitose
The metropolitan center of Hokkaido's economy. Large offices and shopping facilities line the area around JR Sapporo Station. Still, with Odori Park forming a stripe of green near the city center, this hub of tourism doesn't feel far removed from nature. In addition to historical buildings from Hokkaido's frontier age, Sapporo features shopping and culinary destinations like the Susukino and Tanukikoji districts. Sapporo's nearby airport, the international New Chitose Airport, is Hokkaido's largest. The Chitose area is another hub for tourism, with guest ranches, theme parks, and factory tours.
