[Mie] Walk on the old Tokaido road and experience Aizome/indigo Dyeing
Book now for today
- Your journey begins with a Japanese lunch meticulously prepared using locally-sourced seasonal ingredients.
- Next, you will move to the atelier of the establishment, where you’ll engage in the art of Aizome, an ancient Japanese technique of indigo dyeing. Here, you’ll craft your own silk stole or pillow case (need to let us know beforehand) adorned with the exquisite hue of Ai, the indigo color also known as “Japan Blue”, a masterpiece to cherish. Materials dyed with Ai acquire antibacterial properties and remain odorless, making them not only visually appealing but also highly functional.
- After trying Aizome, you’ll stroll on the Tokaido trail, surrounded by historic Japanese houses that capture the essence of the Edo era (1603 – 1868). The town was designated as an important preservation district back in the 80s and therefore the authenticity has been kept well compared to the other post towns. You will truly feel the serene atmosphere of the Japanese old town here in Seki Juku!
