Description
Onishi Kyosendo was founded in the Tempo era (1830–1843), and the current owner is in the 9th generation. At the time, the store name was Yamatoya for Yamatoya Shobei, but the name was changed to Kyosendo in the Meiji era. Onishi Kyosendo is located close to the Sanjo Ohashi bridge near the last stop of the old Tokaido road, and supplied purveyors from Myoshin-ji, Chion-in, Nanzen-ji and other main temples of religious sects with fan for temples. Due to the location attracting both international and domestic tourists, the store also began selling general fans, fans for dance and fans for tea ceremony.
With our extensive experience in making fans through many generations, we strive to produce fine fans that have Kyoto-like designs and patterns, as well as focusing on the appearance, shape and touch of the fan when folded.
Our Rakufu Sense fan has the character for Kyoto carved in the outer fibs of the fan. It is a famous product that showcases Kyoto refinement and an elegant design.
Come and see our traditional crafts that can only be found in Kyoto.
