Ancent Orient Museum

古代オリエント博物館

Description

The museum was opened in 1978 as Japan's first museum devoted to the ancient Orient. Visitors can see and learn the history in the museum. You can trace the history of human development in the ancient world through, for example, the hunting and gathering life of 1,000,000 years ago, the invention of writing, as well as the establishment of a nation. It features stone implements used by ancient men, a reconstructed model of an ancient community, earthenware that was buried with the dead, and crafts that show cultural exchanges between the East and the West. You can see the short movies about the history of man's development in the ancient world in the projection room, which allows you to feel the ancient Oriental world with images and sounds. In the museum shop, the museum's original merchandise, including pendants and replicas of cylindrical seals, are sold. It is a fifteen-minute walk from the JR Ikebukuro Station East Exit. Alternatively, it is a six-minute walk from the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line Higashi-Ikebukuro Station Exit No. 6 or No. 7.
