Shikisai-no-oka

四季彩の丘

Description

Spanning scenic rolling hills and interspersed with parks and observation decks offering a breathtaking view, the area between JR Biei Station and JR Bibaushi Station is known as the Panorama Road. Shikisai-no-oka is the main tourist attraction along Panorama Road.
Take in the magnificent vista of the peaks in the Tokachi Volcanic Group that form a stunning backdrop to the flower gardens. While you can savor the gardens on foot, a ride on the tractor bus or carts makes it easier to get around owing to the scale of the gardens. You'll also find other alluring attractions alongside the flower gardens, including an alpaca farm where you can enjoy petting the alpacas, a market offering vegetables and other produce directly from the company running the gardens, a gift shop offering lavender-related products and sweets, as well as a restaurant where you can delight in dishes using ingredients from Biei.
Please remember that visitors must not walk on the flowerbeds. The flying of drones is prohibited over the entire area.

Access Info
From Asahikawa Airport, take the Lavender Bus run by Furano Bus for 16 minutes, and get off at JR Biei Station, which is 12 minutes by car from the gardens. Alternatively, walk for 25 minutes from JR Bibaushi Station.

Admission Fee
Admission is free of charge. However, visitors are kindly requested to donate around 200 JPY per person to cover the cost of maintaining the flower gardens.

Different Delights Depending on the Season
(1) Green season
Different colors that change with the season adorn the flower gardens. Tulips start in early May, and lavender blooms between late June and mid-July along with snapdragons, sunflowers, and other varieties.
Stroll or hop on a vehicle to get around the gardens. The Shikisai-no-oka Norokko (tractor bus: 500 JPY for high school students and adults; 300 JPY for junior high school or elementary school students; free of charge for preschool children) takes a 15-minute tour through the gardens, or rent your own cart (starting at 1,500 JPY to rent a two-seater) to freely roam the gardens. Buggies (500 JPY for a single seater, or 800 JPY for a two-seater driving one circuit of a fixed course. Drivers must be 16 or older) are also available to drive as you please along a dedicated course.
(2) Winter season
Snow begins to fall from late November most years, turning the flower gardens into a land of snow during the winter season up to March. Take a ride across the vast snow plains on a snowmobile (starting at 1,000 JPY per person), try a snowmobile tour (starting at 7,200 JPY per person), or enjoy a variety of activities including snow rafting (staring at 600 JPY per person) and sledding (200 JPY per sled).
Check the website for more details on activities.

Alpaca Farm
To one corner of the flower gardens at Shikisai-no-oka is an alpaca farm where you can pet and feed the alpacas. The alpaca farm closes 30 minutes before the flower gardens close.
Admission to the farm costs 500 JPY for high school students and adults, 300 JPY for junior high school or elementary school students, and is free of charge for preschool children. Feed for the alpacas costs 100 JPY each time.
