Description

Thunder Rice Crackers have been sold in Japan for over 200 years, starting in Asakusa.
The name Thunder Rice Crackers, known as Kaminari Okoshi in Japanese, originates from Asakusa's famed Kaminarimon entrance gates. It is also traced back to the Japanese expressions used for ”making a fortune,” or ”making a name for oneself.” A store selling them was built in an area to the side of the Kaminarimon gates (which were not in existence back then) in 1892. Even today, these famous rice crackers are enjoyed by many people.
The current building was rebuilt in 1954, after being lost in a fire during the Bombing of Tokyo in March 1945.
It was built with the future reconstruction of Kaminarimon gates in mind, and was considered quite exceptional architecture back then, frequented by a great deal of customers.
Today some 70 years after our shop's reconstruction, we produce and sell a new type of Thunder Rice Crackers to keep up with the changing times. We hope you will try our Thunder Rice Crackers, either in original or new recipes.
