Japan has the most charming scattered little islands that capture that perfect countryside allure travelers are always on the lookout for. You can experience all of this when you head down to the Nagasaki Prefecture, home of the famous "99 islands" as seen on the opening credits of the popular Tom Cruise film "The Last Samurai." In all honesty, the Japanese must have put a number (Kujukushima is literally 99 in Japanese) on it for formality because they remain countless even to this day. While landing on the islands is not exactly feasible itself, you can cruise along the crystal clear waters of Sasebo on a 50-minute ride on the Pearl Queen (a white, multi-deck ferry) or Pirate Boat Mirai (the first electric-powered eco-boat) that can bring you closer to the islands.
